According to people who study such things, we\u2019ve gone from the Industrial Age to the Information Age and are now entering the Idea Age. Creative thinking, often scorned by left-brained thinkers, is taking on a new importance. Richard Florida<\/a>, author of The Rise of the Creative Class<\/strong><\/em>, says,\u00a0 \u201cAccess to talented and creative people is to modern business what access to coal and iron ore was to steel making.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am wildly excited about this turn of events because I’ve known about the power of ideas for a long time. Shortly after I started my first business, I came across a quote from Oliver Wendell Holmes that became a mantra for me. He said, \u201cA person\u2019s mind stretched to a new idea can never return to its original dimensions.\u201d I could see plenty of evidence of that in my own journey.<\/p>\n

It saddens me when people talk about a vision and then dismiss it by saying, \u201cIt\u2019s just an idea.\u201d JUST an idea?\u00a0 Think about this: ideas can be…<\/p>\n

big<\/p>\n

little<\/p>\n

crazy<\/p>\n

magical<\/p>\n

bold<\/p>\n

empowering<\/p>\n

terrifying<\/p>\n

fleeting<\/p>\n

life-changing<\/p>\n

daunting<\/p>\n

abundant<\/p>\n

ridiculous<\/p>\n

nagging<\/p>\n

awakening<\/p>\n

potent<\/p>\n

trivial<\/p>\n

lofty<\/p>\n

neglected<\/p>\n

startling<\/p>\n

far-fetched<\/p>\n

on target<\/p>\n

provocative<\/p>\n

fleeting<\/p>\n

brilliant<\/p>\n

silly<\/p>\n

slow<\/p>\n

stuck<\/p>\n

elusive<\/p>\n

seeds<\/p>\n

inspiring<\/p>\n

annoying<\/p>\n

tenacious<\/p>\n

baffling<\/p>\n

starved<\/p>\n

nurtured<\/p>\n

The one thing I know for sure is that the best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas.
